Continuously on the cam side but not much. It records bits of video based on a he motion sensor that is available for replay for about a day on your phone. Free. Nest charges for recording.

Please try again later.you can program them to record when they detect motion...i have mine set up on 10 sec clips with motion is detected....it does not cause a dent in my bandwith. Just don't set them up to always record and record for 70 seconds and you won't have any issues.
