You might have a defective unit, but check the easiest first. Is it working at all when it is on the base? If not, you might not have power to the outlet or the circle might not be down securely on its base. When you say hold a charge, are you talking at all, or just for a while? Remember the charge only lasts a couple of hours if your unit is active.
