My experience with the keyboard is that it does not. I don't know if there is a setting in the logi software that comes with it to allow for this. I haven't played with that too much yet. I will update soon when I have a chance to play with it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Smart Illumination: There are sensors that turn off the backlighting and sensors that turn on the backlighting. They operate whether you are plugged in or not. The "smart illumination", in my case, simply lights the keyboard when my hands hover over the keys. It works flawlessly so far. I have no idea why you would want your backlighting to stay on all the time and it's a rare setting for notebooks, where battery life is a concern...and even when plugged in a notebook system still likes to turn off backlighting. Try a nonintrusive LED desk lamp if that's a necessity.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It does not stay on all the time, to preserve battery life. It detects your hand movement over the keyboard, and illuminates then. You don't even have to touch it, just a wave over the keyboard and it turns on.
