It can sit unused for hours and as soon as I grab the mouse, the cursor moves immediately (as long as the computer hasn't fallen asleep). I have had two of these for years, one at work and one at home. Love them.

I'm not sure if it times out, or if you can disable it if it does.... but I know that I only connect a charging cable to mine twice a year. I usually get at least 6 months from a full charge. I use it probably 3-4 hours a day, every day of the week. Hope that helps
