• It comes with 2 different surfaces. The cloth and the harder more plastic one. I haven't tried anything in between them, but much like a phone, I don't imagine it has much distance to it.

• Yes you can use your own cloth pad. I have my Corsair MM300 on top of the pad and it works fine.

• Package comes with a soft pad and a hard pad. They lay over the powerplay mat. I've not tried another pad but assuming there's nothing interfering with the wireless charging I'd assume it will work.

• Yes you can... there are a few videos online where a person has created a larger pad that the keyboard can sit on next to the mouse and have that pad cover the whole thing. That is what I have done. No video tho.
