“I am trying to find speakers to use with my Onkyo 6 cd player. I read that I need an active subwoofer that acts as an amplifier and that I can't plug the speakers directly into it.Does this Logitech set have that or do I need to buy a separate amplifier?”

as long as your CD player has the 3.5mm auxiliary or RCA plugs you should not have a ploblem hope this helps, and by the way, I have these speakers hooked up to my computer and man they are fantastic

So on the contrary, by having a preamplifier in the subwoofer it will make the system to be more comfortable for the quality of sound experience that we all thirst for. It would be a good addition. Just keep in mind that if you bring any home system to a full volume, it eventually give in either in the speakers or the system itself... moderation is key to best quality sound experience.
