Can you add more speakers to this 3 - piece set? null

No. If you want more speakers, buy a system that has them.

I don't see any easy way to add additional speakers to this unit

I have a pair of Sony bluetooth speakers that I pair with this piece to my Logitech bluetooth adapter...only problem?...the Sony's produce 2 channel mono each....I don't mind....I can still control gain separately, and they all fill the room.
