A:AnswerI found that I needed to adjust the sound mixer to get the clearest sound. The default mixer settings are very tinny and flat. Boosting the highs and lows and decreasing the mid-range clears it up. I doubt that going optical will really make a difference, the problem is the default mixer settings. It took me a while to adjust it to be the same as my old 7.1 system.

A:AnswerSeparately? No... The Sub is controlled by the main/right speaker. While you can have any of 3 input types in (so RCA, optical or mini jack) from home theater to the sub, you would still need the right speaker for power and bass adjustments.
A:AnswerYou are correct, there is no switch. The sound comes out automatically from whatever source is playing. I have a desktop and tv connected, and I get sound automatically from whichever is playing. (I think I tried both at once just to see and both sounds will come out simultaneously). Btw, they sound amazing, especially when playing bass rich music.
