I suppose it depends on what exactly counts as a "place setting" -- just a plate and three basic utensils, or do you include salad forks, bread plates, caviar spoons, etc? ;-) More seriously, I count the following: Lower rack has space for a total of about 20 full-sized plates, plus space for at least 64 utensils, and a few slots for larger serving utensils. The upper rack has room for a total of about 22 saucers. (I am attaching a picture of my partly-loaded dishwasher so you can get an idea. The dish pattern is Pfaltzgraff Gourmet.)
