“Are the function keys primary by default? Or does the keyboard have a function lock option? I see a lock button on the top right of the function key row. I need it to work out of the box without installing additional drivers/software (work laptop).”

• No, they are not. They perform their silly alternate operations by default, like skip track or launch the Windows calculator. You have to hold down the Fn key to get them to send their normal F1-F12 scan codes/key presses. No function lock that I found.
