As long as the device has a mini-DVI port or if you are using the Surface Dock (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/microsoft-surface-dock-black/4561910.p?skuId=4561910) it will be able to attach to a second monitor. I use the DVI port at customer meetings but while home I connect my old Surface 3 and now new Surface 6 to the dock it it works great.
