“If I upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, will all my old apps and files be automatically transfered into the new operating system, or do I have to back each one up on an external drive and reinstall all over again?”

I did a fresh install on a new system, but I believe they offer a option to do a keep data install or clean. I still recommend saving any hard files you want to keep. Installed apps and programs can always be reinstalled just keep the downloaded install .exe if they’re hard to redownload
