• There is no little switch on the thumb side of this model. In fact there is no switch on any “side.” However, the switch on the bottom (underneath) is to turn on the power for the mouse. The power is provided by a 1.5 volt battery.

• the switch turns the mouse on or off so you don't waste the battery inside.

• It could be the slide button that turns the mouse on and off. It preserves battery usage to turn the button off.

• They don't exist for either left or right handed users on at least the newer 3500 version. Don't know anything about older versions of this. Side buttons when they exist are usually used for Aux use for other functions you want them to be.
