I would say update the firmware and make sure the headset is not on your head but sitting motionless near the Xbox. After each firmware update power cycle your head set and reset you Xbox to help with pairing. Oh and anything beyond 20ft may be too far. The range on these are probably best at 18ft or less. I get break ups in sound if I'm beyond 20ft or through walls. I used these with my cell phone in the house too.
