“Can I put this on the back of an Otterbox Defender case and make it Mag Safe? My phone is an iphone 12 & I got the Defender case for it, which I really like but it will not charge wirelessly through it. Rather than purchase a new case, can I use this?”

I have a 13 Pro Max with a Defender as well, and I bought the ring to just make the phone attach to the mount in my car, I don’t think a safe amount of current can travel through the thick cases and charge your phone safely.
