NANO LEAF PANELS WILL NOT REQUIRE A HUB OR THIRD PARTY DEVICE TO CONTROL. CONNECT NANO LEAF TO 2.4HZ INTERNET IN WIFI SETTINGS ON PHONE (IMPORTANT PART). THE PHONE YOUR USING WILL THEN BE ABLE TO PAIR TO THE PANELS AND CONTROL LITERALLY PLUG, MOUNT, AND PLAY.

They can work without the app, but to better control the colors and the different patterns it’s easier to control with the app.

These can work without a smart home hookup, I have a set of 15 on my wall that are connected to WiFi. I use the app to control them, no smart home necessary.

You can just use it with the Nanoleaf app only. No smart home devices required but does work well with HomeKit.
