“I have a modem that has all eth ports used. One of the ethernet cables goes to a DVR security camera system. Can I hook this wire to the switch and then have one wire going to the dvr and another to a router? My isp only gives me one IP.”

• Always connect modem only to the router, unless your modem is also a router. You hopefully have one or more ethernet ports out of your router. If you need to wire more devices than you have router ports, that's where you connect a switch like this one. So normally, it should be modem connected to router, router connected to switch and other devices, switch connected to more devices. Having more than one port out of the modem may require two IP addresses from you provider.

• Yea, all you need is power to the switch and one cable from your router to the switch and plug whatever else you want into the remaining ports.
