I have one modem (Frontier) connected by LAN lines to three computers. Can I hook this switch up to the modem and then to an external SSD drive so the drive is recognized by all three computers?

No because the unit only accepts cat 5 or cat6 plugs and I don’t think your SSD has a cat5 plug on it. The plugs look like phone cable plugs but much bigger

This device is just an additional port from the router. For that setup, you may need to purchase a router that has the capability to have cloud storage like our Nighthawk routers.
