I don't think it makes much difference. They will both offer you various upgrades or extended warranties. BB couldn't allow me to purchase the device outright as AT&T wanted it to be on an installment plan. I was able to pay 90% up front though. I don't know if you can directly purchase 100% from AT&T or not. Hope that helps. I'm happy with the device. I was pleased to learn that I can make calls & texts with my NON AT&T phone through it.
