The Netgear CM1000 is a Cable modem with a built-in wireless and wired router. Xfinity is my internet service provider, and the CM1000 works fine for me. If you want to run a google mesh wireless system, you would probably want to disable the built-in WiFi in the CM1000. There is no reason that I can think of that would prevent attaching a Google Mesh system to the CM1000, but I have no experience with the Google Mesh products.

I use this Netgear modem with Xfinity (paying for 400m and getting an average of 480 down and 12m up--although this Netgear modem is easily capable of Xfinity's Gigabit service too since it uses DOCSIS 3.1 protocol) as the first leg in my connection, then Cat5e connected directly into the Google WIFI base, which then wirelessly meshes to the other two units in the house. Very happy with the set up and everything is running a great speeds (depending on how many wireless devices, and I currently have 36 wireless devices connected through the house, with two gamers in the household). Remember your wireless speed through the Google WIFI system will vary based on the type of electronics you have and that electronics ability to maximize the wireless signal. That's why I still run an inexpensive gigabit LAN switch too so I can hard-wire some devices while giving wireless speed to those who really need it and then LAN switch for everything else.
