I am not completely sure how your setup is but with some assumptions I would say the Nighthawk is your router and then you would also have a separate Modem. The Netgear Nighthawk router would have to be connected directly to your Modem, and your Xbox plugged into the Nighthawk. I am assuming your Xbox is upstairs (different level then Modem) so you would have to either connect your Xbox using WiFi, or run the Ethernet chord from your Xbox upstairs to the router (downstairs) or place your router upstairs (next to Xbox) and run the Ethernet chord downstairs to your modem. The Netgear Nighthawk router must be connected using an Ethernet chord to your Modem which is the original source of power, it does not connect wirelessly.
