I'd say if you can put the main unit on the top floor in the center as much as possible of your place and the satellite on the lower level - you would be fine. It really depends on how open your place is. I always like to put the main unit as close to the center of the top floor closer to where you need the coverage the most. Then use the satellite to enhance coverage in the lower level where needed. You can always purchase an additional satellite if needed later.
