I get my internet via a fiber optic connection from SCTC. No modem is required; my current router (Netgear's 6220) works fine with the internet cable plugged directly into that router. However, the Orbi mesh router isn't able to complete the install without a modem. It acts like it does, but keeps going back to the "plug internet cable into the modem and reboot". I've told them several times, I don't HAVE a modem, I don't NEED a modem with fiber connection. I'm still waiting for Netgear Support to get back to me, but I suspect I'll be returning this item to Best Buy. Pity, I think it's a good product, if Netgear would only fix the problem.
