Thank you for the questions and happy to help as best we can. Yes, the system is 2K which is higher resolution that 1080p HD. And the cameras are indeed rated for outdoor use. We do advise trying to protect the cameras from sunlight if possible as it will work to extend the life of the cameras from sun wear. Thanks, Night Owl SP Digital Support Team
