This lens does fit on the D3500. I'm not sure what clicking you are referring to as neither of the lens I got with the D3500 click when I attach them. I have successfully used this lens as well as the 18-55mm and 70-300mm lenses with no trouble or noises. Just make sure you are aligning the attachments properly.
