This is a good beginner camera, the body is plastic, the lenses that come with it are of descent quality. I have a D5000 that came out in 2009 and it still works as great today as it did in 09'. I also own a D7000 which is a lot better and has a boat load more features that the D3400 & D5000. If you decide to upgrade in 2-3 years the lenses that come with the D3400 will work with the newer Nikon cameras.

We cannot comment on what future developments may occur due to technological breakthroughs but new products from Nikon are manufactured and distributed for sale all the time. The Nikon D3400 is the newest camera in the line-up for DSLR bodies and has all new SnapBridge technology for super-easy WiFi connectivity and a native ISO range from 100-25,600. Combine that with a 24.2 megapixel DX-format image sensor and no optical low-pass filter you get amazing, high-quality images that really stand out from the rest and are ready for sharing the minute you capture them. This camera and supplied AF-P lens are built for speed to make sure you catch every important moment; and so lightweight and compact you can take it anywhere the action is. In addition this camera is compatible with AF, AF-S and E-type lenses, so the possibilities are endless for what you can create with a growing camera bag that includes this camera for the years ahead.
