The F-stop has nothing to do with the camera. It is a function of the lens that is used on the camera. The same lens will have the same range of F-stops no matter what camera model is used. The D3500 is an entry level camera and is a very good one. The D5600 has more features such as the touch screen and the vari-angle monitor. It has more focus points and better movie features than the D3500. The D5600 has WI-fi and SnapBridge to transfer images to a cell phone. The D3500 has SnapBridge as well. It depends on the feature that you want at what price. Both are very good cameras and take excellent photos.

To start, the D5600 offers a Touch TFT-LCD Screen that can be rotated outward, whereas the D3500's TFT LCD screen is not touch screen and is fixed in place. The D5600 also offers a 3.5mm microphone port to be able to support external microphones, the D3500 does not have a microphone port and does not support external microphones. The D5600 also offers 39 focus points compared to the D3500's 11 focus points. The D5600 also offers a full custom settings menu where the D3500 offers only preset modes.
