I've had this for over a year and only time my house smells is if there is grease on the bottom pan. I've cooked bacon on mine and the house barely has smoke or smell? I'd double check the top grate and make sure everything is working properly.

That being said, I live in a 600 ft2 apartment and the food smell is not any different than what I get from cooking on the stove, maybe slightly milder actually
