why am i getting VENT error when trying to saute, no lid is on for saute so no pressue, why does it think its over pressure. tryed everything,unplug.let it timeout of error and shutdown itself. still vent error when turn back on to saute or slow cook. null

This happened to me as well and I found out that if I did a short pressure cook, 2 minutes, and then let it fully vent at the end I was able to saute again. I think the error may have happened for me because I was too quick to try and get the lid off when doing a pressure cook. Note I am not an expert and this literally just happened so not sure if it will continue to happen!

I"ve had my 8 qt Ninja Pressure Cooker/Air Fryer for two weeks and am going to see how it does this week. It still makes me nervous that it malfunctioned this early in the game, but for now your DIY Fix worked. Thanks again.

Tried to make chili today from enclosed cookbook that came with the unit. Got the same error as everyone else on this site. So annoying. When I pay top dollar for something I expect it to work as advertised.

So, I got the vent error and called the Shark/Ninja helpline. Because my unit is 2 years old the only thing they will do for me is offer me a discount on purchasing a new unit since they only have a 1 year warranty. I only used this thing once or twice a week and it is shot in 2 years?? I was bragging this up to my friends, won't do that anymore! The discount price they offered me was $191.00. I can get one for $199 from Amazon and have it in one day!

I think it has something to do with the weight of the pot inside the cooker. I plugged in my ninja foodie with the frying basket inside the pot. Then i took the fryer out and turned it on to saute, it made several popping sounds inside the pot like its calibrating or something. Then the “OPEN VENT” alarm went off. So i tried troubleshooting it... i took the pot out first then put it back in (still didnt work)... i kept the pot in the cooker and turned it off and unplugged it for 2mins. When i plugged it back in and it rebooted, the popping sounds happened again then a couple of seconds later, it worked.

I had the "Vent" error message also when I tried to saute. I called the Ninja Foodi customer service line. "Randy" was very courteous, took the model number and serial number from the unit. He even already had my email (from when I registered the unit after purchase). According to Ninja, they just send you a new base unit when you get that error. I paid the $20 shipping fee and I received the new base unit THE NEXT DAY.

I had a similar problem but the air fry lid did still work properly. All the other functions that involve the pressure lid would flash the "LID" error message, even though the pressure lid was properly on the unit, with its silicone ring intact, and the vent knob set to pressure. It just didn't detect the lid. Ninja wanted me to send it back and wait 6 weeks for a new unit. I didn't want to wait and I thought that was stupid, so I fixed it myself. I put the pot and fry basket in the unit, put the air fry lid down and set it to air fry for a few seconds, then without turning it off, I hit the saute button. It immediately said lid, because that's the wrong lid to saute. I then hit pressure, and it still said lid. Then I lifted the fry lid, put on the pressure lid, and it worked. It could sense the pressure lid and functioned normally. I think it has something to do with weight in the pot. Putting in the fry basket, and starting from fry directly to a pressure function, fixed the sensor somehow. Hope this helps!

I fixed this issue this week. The problem was sticky residue on the contacts on the pressure switches. I cleaned the copper contacts with alcohol, paper towel and a piece of loose leaf paper. The switches are accessed by removing the bottom cover. This may void your warranty and do NOT attempt to fix while unit is plugged in.

I am having this same issue. I purchased my Ninja in May 2019. I did notice it happened after using the pressure cooker. I did not open it early or anything as far as I know as it had natural released for 10 minutes and then I let it manually release until no steam. However, I have tried pressure cooking again and just leaving it for awhile - no help. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in (my usual go to)< and that didn't work either. Tried calling customer support but they are on a different time zone so I will try again. I did purchase mine at a membership club that offers a satisfaction guarantee so if Ninja isn't a help that may be my option. Still frustrating as I haven't even had a year yet and that was one of the highlights of the product.

I have a new 2024 Ninja used 3 times only, the open vent message came on as described here.
I followed the instructions for cleaning the pressure, switches. it is now working.
you will need a small (t10) Torx screwdriver to remove the one screw and centre plastic disc

Hi, I experienced the same issue. The fix was very easy. I removed the down cover and used a cleaning contacts spray. I sprayed the sensors contacts 3 times with interval of 5 minutes and … Voala, it works again. I hope this helps to all that are facing this problem.

I hope you all did not get rid of your Foodi, I just got a VENT error on mine and was quick to panic. Read in this blog some of the things you all did. So I pressed the pressure button but did not put on the lid or added water, I was righting this while waiting (about 2 minutes), I then pressed the Stop button, pressed sauté and the code disappeared!

Tyvm everyone in this thread. I've had this thing for about a week and now have this error while making dinner for guests tonight. None of the suggested hacks fix it.

Encouraged by the experience of others, I tried to contact Ninja customer support with no luck. That has experience has convinced me that I will return the unit to the store. After I failed to have the voice assistant recognize my pronunciation of ninja, it hung up on me. I found a different number that allowed me to use the keypad to get in queue and then waited an hour (estimated 5 min). When the rep answered, he repeatedly said that he couldn't hear me, rattled off a phone number to call back, faster than anyone could reasonably capture, and then hung up. Possibly because it was two minutes to quitting time by then? 
To add insult, a short time later we received the call back that I requested as an option while in queue, but it was an automated call to say there was an error. Oh, and the end of call QA survey that I was promised several times? Never had that, so I hope they managed to record my parting words.. I'm done.

I tried all those methods to no avail and had (at the Ninja Help Desk’s suggestion) ordered a new base for $120. Then in another forum a woman told me to jangle the pot around and be rough with it. That worked. I canceled the order and it’s still working. It did it again last night but the pot slamming fixed it again.
