These are two different products. Norton core is a router with built-in protection. It's still advisable to have protection on your devices as well. i.e. What if you have a laptop in your home and you travel with it - you will still need protection on the device. The core gives you additional protection for devices that do not, and cannot have protection. For example, there have been many cases where internet enabled devices have been compromised - TVs, cameras, thermostats, etc. This device provides additional protection for these types of devices and threats to your home environment. It's a physical device you plug into your network - not software.

Please try again later.You do not NEED to purchase the Norton Core, but it will provide more protection beyond what Norton Security Suite provides for the devices you install it on. Norton Core protects all devices on your WiFi network, not just those that you can install Security Suite on. Core and Security Suite will work well together as Security Suite can protect the data on your computers while Core will help prevent infection and malicious activity at the network level. Think of it this way: Norton Core is the security cameras and alarm system to keep burglars out, while Security Suite is the guard dog that chases burglars away once they get in.
