There are multiple apps in google play store you can download and install in this device like XUMO (live tv and movies and tv shows) That's free, netflix. Also you can install Kodi but you would need to configure yourself it is a media player app can run addons and apps Hope that helps

You have to buy a streaming service and load it as an application on the Shield console. I use YoutubeTV for $65 a month. I get most cable channels and most sports channels. You also need quite a bit of internet capability like 100 mb/s to stream YoutubeTV. The Shield also loads Hulu, Netflix, Youtube, iHeart, TuneIn, and many other applications. It is basically a small computer or a phone without the phone service. After having a Shield, I would recommend going for a top of the line Roku box which is about half the price. The Shield costs much more because it boasts the ability to play games on it. But I do not know anyone who does that.

If I did, I bet this would be a bigger argument in where people would ask me how I knew your husband and from where. Then you'd all get a divorce and then no one would really care about if he got his channels because his new girlfriend (or boyfriend, I mean, I don't know your husband) may have YouTubeTV already. So ultimately, if your husband likes certain cable channels, get YouTubeTV because it likely has them, has no hidden fees, and has a decent interface. Also when there are sporting events on broadcast TV and it pre-empts your local shows, they'll offer you an on demand version in your show listing that you can browse. This is a good feature to have when someone gets golf or football on TV and they underestimate the time needed to show those events because they happen live and they don't pad the lineup enough. Also, they try to get everyone to watch live TV but then do stuff like this which skews your DVR so you always miss your shows which is why you don't pay for cable when they do that. Anyway, it's a long story and I'd ultimately recommend YouTubeTV for this which nVidia Shield does support and supports well. If that's not what your husband wants, maybe reask the question with those specific channels instead of assuming we'd know what he wants as if we do know him. However, if you don't wish to do that, give him my number, then I can get to know him and give you a better answer without any context or specifics.

There may be a subscription to that channel that you would have to pay for, but you would need to weigh the cost. Disney plus, hulu and ESPN are a bundled option for $14.99 a month. If you were to add in a few other like Netflix, CBS All Access, HBO, etc. it can get costly. My cost is roughly even with a cable bill, but I do not pay the added costs ov DVR or Tivo because I have the access whenever I want to watch something. I own an apple tv regular and 4K, all the devices mirror each other because they are under the same Apple ID. I can also place parental controls on the devices themselves. It then requires a passcode to watch specific apps/shows. Cord cutting can be a cost savings IF done appropriately.
