No, that would not be possible.

The reason is that once you press stop, the file is closed and saved to the memory. If you press the playback button, it starts playing from the beginning of the file, not where you left off recording. If you need a recorder with advanced editing capabilities built in, or that works in a similar manner to an analog tape recorder, look for the Olympus DS-2500 model instead.
