• After reading all the Q&A on this component I set out to buy it along with STEREO POWERED SPEAKERS with the RCA connection. Guess what???? There is no volume control on the unit nor the remote control. So you do need another component to play through.

• This player cannot be played stand alone. It needs an amplifier through which you can listen to the songs from the tracks or the MP3 files on the CD that it playes. This player offers great facilities to select and play tracks and MP3 files from 6 CDs that can be placed in this unit. You can have your choice of amplifer connected via two RCA cables or a digital (Optical) cable. This CD Player can drive a high end Sterio Amplifier with hi-fi sound. Hope this helps.

• No, a receiver is required. Not sure if you could use it as a stand alone with analog to speaker adapter.. never tried that with anything.
