Yes, this unit has random play.

yes it can play on shuffle for all the CDs at once skipping from CD3 to CD6 for the next song.

The Onkyo 6 disc changer does have Random play, some brands call it shuffle, some random, but they both do the same function. The random button on this onkyo unit will play ALL the songs on the disc incerted until ALL the songs have been played only once (In random order) and then the unit stops. If you put in more than 1 cd (say 6 cd's) and then push the random, then play button, the unit will randomly shuffle ALL the songs on ALL the discs (Plays each song only once) and then the unit will stop. It will indeed play every single song only once, on all the cd's, until it is finished. Because this is a memory feature, if you push the stop button at any time during Random mode, it will start all over and you will hear again the songs you already heard, (Just don't push stop) I love this feature on the Onkyo, While in random mode, if you don't like the song that just started you can push the next song button (>>I button on remote, under folder) and it will randomly pick a different song. Remember that once you skip to another song in random mode, you cannot hear that song again, it's considered played. Think of it as a jukebox of discs that will play all the songs on all the discs in random order until all the songs have been played once. Many cd changers still do not carry this function, let alone shuffle all the songs on all the discs only once. Sony was the first to do this back in the early-mid 80's. I still have a working 10 disc Sony cd changer that I bought back in 1988 for about $400 (It even has a fiber optic jack in the back) The 10 disc is sorta overkill to me now, but this 6 disc onkyo with the exact same shuffle function, fits the bill perfectly (and was on sale for $100 back in march 2018)
