I suggest to replace, that is why I went with the Onkyo, to replace the Sony I had. Just make sure you have the correct input and output jacks on the tuner or amp..
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Funny you should ask - I had a 1980's Technics single disc player too! All I did was unplug the old player, and used the same plug-in and just swapped it out with this one. Easy-peazy.

I had a Marantz cd player that I purchased in the 90's and when I tried to replace it I was told that everyone is streaming music now and the one I had could not be replaced or fixed. I hope this helps you with your decision.
