What does it mean 4~16 or 6~16 ohms, do your speakers have to be 4 or 6 ohms? can you use 8 ohm speakers? I haven't purchased new speakers or a new receiver in quite awhile and want to be sure what I can use before buying either. null

I just purchased this unit. All seven of my speakers are 8 ohms. Yes, this receiver will work fine with 8 ohm speakers.

You can hook up speakers to the TX-NR696 ranging between 4 to 16 ohms. My speakers are 6 ohms and work just right. Minimum is 4 ohm speakers, max. 16 ohm speakers.
