This depends upon your service provider. If you have a land line, it will work when the power is out. If your phone is not a land line (i.e. Comcast/Xfinity) it will not work unless you have a modem to which you've added an internal battery backup per your provider's instructions. I see Comcast/Xfinity actually states in their ads that there is no phone service if there is a power outage. Short answer - check with your service provider.
