It depends on the quality of the DAC in your receiver, which converts the HDMI's digital audio signal into analog. Since the DAC in this Panasonic player is probably of higher quality than the one in your receiver, I'd expect you'd get better sound quality using the player's analog outputs. In my system, which uses a very good but older DAC to convert the HDMI signal, I prefer the sound quality of the Panasonic player's analog outputs. You can connect both options and switch between them, as I did, to experiment.
