• I believe that a 3-way lamp works by reducing the power going to the bulb, similar to a dimmer switch. So as long as it’s always kept on the highest setting, and you use the app to control the dimming of the bulb, you should be fine. It needs to remain on full power for a smart bulb to work.

• I can't answer that from a professional stand point, but we have one in a three way lamp and it hasn't seemed to a problem so far. When we put it in we just turned the lamp on until the blub came on and left it at whatever setting that is.
