“How does it detect which color to change to on the led strips? I seen off market brands use a camera so I'm curious on how this knows where and how to change.”

When paired with the Hue Sync Box, color placement of incoming video signals to box are detected by the sync box and translated to the light strip. Surprisingly it does this with very little to no lag time.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You will either need a Hue Play HDMI Sync Box to turn a cable/satellite box, game console, DVD player, or streaming stick into color. Or use a Computer with the Phillips Hue app installed to screen or audio capture from your pc. You can also use the new Spotify integration feature on the mobile app to get this Hue Strip to react to music. But if you need to turn an HDMI signal into color you need to spend another $250 to really use this light for it’s intended purpose.
