You either need the Phillips Hub or you can sync with Amazon Alexa to control the features. Obviously you can access ALL features with the Phillips Hub, but the Amazon sync is what I use and I have plenty of color options, routines, etc to choose from.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. You need a hub to control the lights in any real way.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. You need a hub to control the brightness and color. The hub comes with the starter kit that includes four bulbs. It is simple to set up. All you need to do is plug it into your router, download the app, and then follow the instructions. It is really one of the simplest setups I have seen. Also, remember to set up each light for power on behavior after a power loss so it returns to your setting of choice. Seriously, this is fun to play with. It could almost be classified as a toy. So buy the starter kit and have some fun.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hue is now manufacturing lightbulbs that work completely via bluetooth and therefore do not require a HUB. But, those are pretty new. When I bought my first few Hue bulbs I also bought a bridge that I connected to my wi-fi network router. My recommendation would be to order a starter set with a hub and go from there. Your other option is to buy a Hue dimmer switch. This would control the bulb without installing a bridge. BUT, I don't think it would change the color of the bulb. For that you need the bridge and the app that you can easily download to a phone or tablet.
