You do need some sort of Alexa centered HUB to utilize that feature. For example, the Echo Plus has both features in one. Or you can buy them separate.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Both. You can use Alexa to voice command the lights (on, off, change colors or turn on scenes), but you do need to use a Hub. In addition to all the scene combinations and bulb locations and accessory information which gets stored on the Hub, Alexa needs to identify the unique Hub account when you activate the "skill" for controlling Hue lights. That Hub account is set up on Philips' special web site for Hue and also manages software updates for the bulbs and security and incoming requests from cloud based services like If This Then That (IFTTT). Long story short, having the Hub is beneficial for lots of reasons. If you really don't want one, check into the LIFX bulbs. Just keep in mind that there aren't any accessories like motion detectors or Tap switches for LIFX. You would need to look at third parties like Samsung Smartthings for adding that kind of functionality. WHICH would require a hub :)
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Amazon’s Echo Plus includes the hub functionality needed to control Philips Hue bulbs. For other Alexa voice control units (Echo, Tap, Dot), with no Echo Plus as part of your system, you do need one Philips Hue hub.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need a hub to step up the light after that alexa amazon or google can control the light
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would suggest getting a starter kit as well as this light. You need a hub, and you can control with Alexa. I believe one hub controls 30 lights.
