Hi Matthew, the grills can be easily removed applying a gentle pressure by the side. As a personal preference, I like the sound more with the grill on, just because the overall tone is less harsh.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The cloth grills can be removed. If I remember correctly, it is held in place in what would approximately be the 4 corners. You should be able to remove it by hand with no tools.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The grilles are definitely removable. Takes a bit of work to remove but they come off and go back on. Directions are included in the box.

One can see by the posted photo of the speakers the grills are removable, but I thought perhaps I purchased a revised edition where Pioneer decided to fix the grills to the speaker. When I first tried, the grill started to bend, so a put it down. I have been listening to this speaker now for about a week, and with the grills off. This is one fine little speaker. The speakers are 3' out from the rear wall, a little over 4' apart, with the tweeters 3.5' off the floor. I sit 6' away, all which is a preliminary arrangement. I had intended to use these on either side of my computer monitor, but this may be too close for these speakers. I won't know til I try it. The sound is veiled. I have been listening through the very inexpensive (under $100) Insignia receiver (100 watts per channel @ 8 ohms) I purchased also from Best Buy. I had been listening to DCM KX 12's (Best Buy again) for years. I also noticed the very same veiled sound of the DCM's. Now, with a second loudspeaker to confirm my suspicion, I realize the veiled sound is the shortcoming of the receiver. (I still do not regret buying this receiver). I will be digging my vintage high-end gear out of storage in the not-too-distant- future. These Pioneer's are inefficient speakers. My power amp puts out 140 watts @8 ohms. I am eager to find out how loud these speakers will play with a high current, high wattage amp. The veiled sound should be gone with high caliber gear, as well. Strengths I've noticed so far: the two drivers integrate with each other very well. Well balanced sound. A surprising amount of low end from this speaker. This speaker does a tremendous job at telling you the difference between a good recording and a poor one. Shortcoming: overly recessed center image. Voices not quite as well produced as other reviewers have stated (the hardest sound to reproduce well). I'm not sure reviewing a $130 pair of loudspeakers is the thing to do, but there is so much hype involved with this speaker it may be okay. I hope to review this speaker using higher-end gear. So far , this is a very impressive speaker for the money, and I got them on sale!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I take mine off all the time. Use alot of force and it comes off. Gets easier with time. I do remember the first time, it felt like they were going to break.
