“so the box mentions "access and stream". does that mean that if I put videos on this I can play those videos on the IOS device using their app? If so, do the videos have to be in MP4 format or can the app handle other video formats?”

you are able to watch videos from the drive itself but I've only tried it with MP4 and AVI, but I would think MOV files would also play.
