I'm sorry, I don't know the answer. I have an old classic iPod that doesn't support either plug in, plus all the music in my iPod is controlled by the iTunes account from my computer. My understanding is you should have access to the same music that is used on your iPod or iPad on a new PC if you use your same Itunes account and register that device on your apple account. I purchased this to transfer photos and files from a PC to a new Macbook Pro. The ITunes files automatically transferred from the PC to the Macbook by simply using the same iTunes Account.

I was able to transfer saved music that was physically saved on my iPad for music that was downloaded and actually saved on my pad but just music in your library that has not been actually purchased and simply has been added to your library no not possible. For my iPod the device was not recognized when plugged in.
