USB 3.0 is backward compatible with both USB 2.0 and 1.0 however the peak transfer rate will not exceed the USB 2.0 or USB 1.0 speeds.

Might as well buy the 2.0 version and save your self a buck, unless you are transferring to a newer computer afterwards - with 3.0 compatibility.
