• You can either use a usb phone charger or plug it into the back of the Switch.

• If I am not misunderstanding your question, you would need to plug the usb cable into the Nintendo Switch, or any usb port on a computer or phone charger.

• You pit the Joy Con controllers on the grip and plug the usb into the Switch dock. I don’t think the grip has a battery itself to charge.
