• A mouse can still be safely used without a mouse pad. It should still pick up tracking just as well on any surface, but it will work fine on a smooth solid surface but may not on reflective surfaces such as glass desk.

• I’ve used on both and I’d definitely recommend use with a mousepad.

• I personally use it on the box it came in, due to I play on my bed. And the DPI can be changed to where you can make cursor go 360 from edge to edge of the box.
