Yes. Just got burned by the same (not uncommon) thing. This is a 16" only wall mount.

You need a different mount. This product needs a 16" stud width.

You can install it on 24” studs. One side attach to studs other side use anchors. Typically you can get 85lb anchors for drywall. With it being in two studs and two anchors it will hold roughly 250lbs without to much issue. I drilled two holes in center of mount and added two more anchors just for added security. I have two of these mounts. One outside and one side. Holding a 75” and 65” tv
