You can get a steel plate or even aluminum... .125 to .250 in thickness, mark and drill the holes for your mount. Go ahead and put the plate exactly where you should mount it on the wall and be sure of the stud locations. Drill all holes for the wall mounting. You can remove and paint all that you find necessary. Wall, plate for the mount, etc and after drying install all. Just be very sure about your stud locations before drilling and very carefully plan for your wall plate height and the TV mount onto the plate.
